2 people found dead inside hotel room in Miami Beach

Miami Beach, Florida – On Wednesday two people were found dead inside of a hotel room at the former Versace Mansion in Miami Beach.

According to Miami Beach Police and Fire Rescue crews, they responded to the late fashion designer’s former home, at 1116 Ocean Drive, after they received a call from housekeeping at 1:21 p.m.

The officers found two men dead from gunshot wounds inside of a hotel room. The discovery happened a day before the 24th anniversary of Gianni Versace’s assassination on the front steps of the mansion.

According to police, the shooting happened on the fourth floor in a middle room, and they have launched a death investigation.

According to Dawanna Washington, a tourist visiting from San Antonio, two gunshots were heard at around 4 a.m. when she and her friends were a few feet away from the back of the hotel.

“My friend thought they were firecrackers, but they were two gunshots,” Washington said. “I’m pretty sure of that. Everybody that was standing outside all dispersed and went their own separate ways because they knew what it was. From beginning to end, I was like, ‘I heard it, and then I saw it.’”

At this time, police still have not released a motive or specifics of the shooting.
