2 yachts in fire at Miami marina, firefighters extinguished flames

Miami, Florida –  After two yachts caught fire at a Miami marina Firefighters extinguished flames.

The fire broke just before 2:30 a.m. out at a marina near Northwest 22nd Avenue and 14th Street, Thursday.

Miami Police said they called the fire in to fire rescue.

“Conditions were intense, that’s why we had multiple units from the bridge, from the water and land,” said Miami Fire Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez. “Also, you’re dealing with a lot of fuel, a lot of plastics so we also had to use a foam operation, that’s why our hazardous materials team was here. We were also able to untie and relocate two other large vessels from getting damaged so the fire was actually isolated to the two yachts.”

One man was there helping a friend whose boat, luckily, was not damaged.

“Closing the yard the 31st, completely,” he said. “They’ve been trying to get rid of these vessels for the past four months.”

No injuries were reported.

It took about an hour to get the fire under control, Firefighters said.

One of the yachts is just over 70 feet long, while the other is about 50 feet long.

Both yachts have been abandoned for some time and they are owned by the same person.
