Airborne turtle flies through car’s windshield on Florida Turnpike

St. Lucie County, Florida — On Friday a freak accident happened on a Florida highway.

According to the St. Lucie County Fire District, they received a call about a crash on the Florida Turnpike near Mile Marker 176.

A semi-truck heading southbound managed to hit a turtle in the road, sending the creature flying through the windshield of a nearby vehicle, officials said.

Officials say the turtle ended up in the backseat of the car.

According to officials, both the turtle and the driver of the car were unharmed after the ordeal.

The turtle was later safely released.
