Back to LADbible Donald Trump Named Loser Of The Year By German Magazine Der Spiegel
Donald Trump has been named ‘Loser of the Year’ by German magazine Der Spiegel, which bestowed the illustrious title on the soon-to-be-former-US Present in an article published earlier this week.
In the news piece headlined Der Verlierer des Jahres (The Loser of the Year), the outlet slammed Trump for refusing to accept his defeat in the recent presidential election, along with his approach to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Donald Trump always played down the pandemic, then fell ill with Covid-19 and became a super spreader,” Der Spiegel summarises.
They add: “Nothing is normal under Trump. He refuses to admit defeat. Instead, he speaks of massive electoral fraud, although there is no evidence for it. The whole thing is not surprising. Trump’s presidency ends as it began: without decency and without dignity.”
The scathing piece was published on Thursday – which just so happened to be the same day that Time magazine named both President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as its 2020 Person of the Year.
At the end of every year, the publication elects one person or group believed to have been the most newsworthy or noteworthy.
It’s not necessarily an endorsement of the winner’s beliefs or actions, but it is an acknowledgment that they dominated headlines across the year and made a huge impact on the discussions people have had.
The magazine’s editor-in-chief noted the President-elect and Vice President-elect won the honour for ‘changing the American story, for showing that the forces of empathy are greater than the furies of division, for sharing a vision of healing in a grieving world’.
US top doctor Dr Anthony Fauci was named as one of Time’s Guardians of the Year, along with Black Lives Matter advocates Porche Bennett-Bey and Assa Traore.
Basketballer LeBron James also won Sportsperson of the Year, K-Pop group BTS were collectively crowned Entertainer of the Year, while Zoom founder Eric Yuan was declared Businessperson of the Year.
