Broward deputies ‘secure’ public school in Pompano Beach

Pompano Beach, Florida – During a lockdown on Friday in Pompano Beach, a group of Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies stood at the entrance of a public school.

A row of BSO patrol cars blocked the entrance of Pompano Beach Middle School, at 310 NE 6 St., inside the parking lot facing Northeast Sixth Street.

The lockdown status had transitioned to “secure” by 3:20 p.m., according to Nadine Drew, a spokeswoman for Broward County Public Schools.

Shortly after 3 p.m., a parent reported receiving a text message from a girl at the school who said she and her classmates were hiding under tables during a “code red” lockdown.

BCPS implemented a new emergency code system with protocols for “HOLD,” “SECURE,” “LOCKDOWN,” “EVACUATE” and “SHELTER” that got rid of the color system.
