Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs Charter softball won the Big-Eight Championship to cap off a fantastic regular season.
This season, the Panthers have improved to 22-3. Courtney Wahlbrink shut out South Plantation High School in the Panthers’ opening 2-0 victory. In their victory over Cardinal Gibbons, Addison Michel and Stephanie Basso scored runs before Wahlbrink pitched six innings without allowing a hit. With a shutout in the last inning pitched by Gia Shirrippa, Head Coach Mark Montimurro earned his 600th career victory.
Giovanni Gurgel and Kate Maston both hit home runs as CSC defeated Western High School 10-3 in the championship game. Basso and Cameron Thiele also scored runs, and Gurgel ended with four RBIs. Wahlbrink also pitched the entire game, striking out ten while giving up just one earned run.
“The Big 8 is a war of attrition,” Montimurro said. “It’s really a tough event to win. A huge testament to the girl’s resolve.”
As the top seed, CSC will then play in the District Championship. In the Semifinals on Monday, April 29 at 4 p.m., they will play Pine Crest. In the final on Wednesday, May 1 at 6 p.m., the winner of this game will face either Calvary Christian Academy or Cardinal Gibbons.
