Coral Springs-Parkland fire officials to issue health warning after Everglades fires

Coral Springs, Florida – As a result of lingering fires in the Everglades, fire officials encouraged Coral Springs and Parkland residents with respiratory problems to stay indoors on Sunday.

According to Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department, sugarcane burning in western Palm Beach was bringing smoke into Broward County.

The fires don’t pose a threat to Coral Springs and Parkland, fire officials said.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, for those with chronic heart and lung diseases, persistent smoke from a fire can cause headaches, sore throat, a runny nose, and tiredness.

Health officials say the biggest health threat from smoke is from microscopic particles, which can penetrate deep into your lungs.
