Coral Springs police officers to deliver toys to homes of children

Coral Springs, Florida – This week, Coral Springs police officers will deliver toys to the homes of more than 100 children whose families had a hard time buying holiday gifts in the tough Covid-19 economy.

But as police see it, that’s just part of the story of people-helping-people during the holiday season.

None of those toy deliveries, police administrators said, would be possible if city residents and others didn’t step up to donate the toys.

In recent weeks, the police department has received thousands of donated toys at drop-off sites including Coral Springs Charter School, Renaissance Charter School at Coral Springs, and Gyroville restaurant.

Close to 500 toys were collected Saturday at the “Fill the (SWAT) Truck” event at a Walmart in Coral Springs.

The children needing toys were identified by school resource officers, guidance counsels, and social workers helping their families get through the hard times.

Officers will bring toys to 130 children and their siblings, leaving them safely outside due to the pandemic.

Asked why the police department is delivering the toys, Deputy Chief Brad McKeone offered a long explanation.

“Our mission during the COVID 19 pandemic has become One Team, One Mission. We could not help the families and the community we serve without all the outpouring from our community. Our duty is to protect and serve and this year that holds an especially important meaning. It is what motivates us not just during the holidays but all times of the year, to help when we can, however we can.”
