Coral Springs Police trained at Coral Square Mall on responding to major emergencies

Coral Springs, Florida – After customers and employees left Coral Square Mall in Coral Springs on Wednesday night, the Coral Springs police SWAT team, along with officers from Sunrise Police Department, practiced handling major emergency scenarios from 9 pm – 2 am.

They trained on handling hostages on a bus, searching for a suspect in darkness, and responding to an active shooter with victims.

According to Coral Springs Police Department Officer Chris Swinson, SWAT and other officers conduct various training monthly.

Most of the training is done out of view of the public in buildings across the city and region, and occasionally it’s done in larger places such as the mall.

In 2020, the department trained at the former 10-story Coral Springs Financial Plaza in downtown Coral Springs before it was torn down.
