MoneyGeek, a personal finance technology company, analyzed the crime statistics from the FBI by calculating the cost per capita in each city. An analysis of crime statistics of 297 heavily populated cities in America determined the rankings based on each city’s cost of crime.
The cost of crime was $40.7 million or $301 per capita in Coral Springs, while the average cost of crime in the United States is $1,734 per capita.
The violent crime rate was 121 per 100,000, and the property crime rate was 1,232 per 100,000 residents.
The 20 safest cities had crime costs below $352 per capita, with the lowest in Naperville, Illinois, at $187. St. Louis, Missouri, had the highest cost of crime, at $11,574 per capita.
Cape Coral was ranked seventh on the list and is the only other city in Florida to appear in the top 20.
