Coral Springs wants to buy 29 new public safety cars

Coral Springs, Florida – As part of an annual car replacement program, Coral Springs will spend $977,000 to buy 29 new cars for the police and fire departments.

The city would buy the police department an unmarked vehicle and 27 marked vehicles, and for the fire department one vehicle, according to a city memo.

On Wednesday the city commission will vote on the purchase from Garber Chevrolet Buick GMC from Green Cove Springs.

The new cars will replace cars in the fleet that have reached their “end-of-life cycle,” according to the memo. The memo didn’t state if any of the new cars will be hybrid or electric.

According to the 2021 budget, the city has budgeted $4.2 million this year to replace vehicles in six departments, including police and fire.

According to the memo, the new cars would be bought through a Florida Sheriffs Association contract that lowers costs through competitive pricing.
