First random metal detection screening held at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School

Parkland, Florida – On Thursday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Broward County Public Schools’ new random metal detection policy went into action.

Three classrooms were randomly chosen for the handheld metal detector screening.

According to a robocall statement from Stoneman Douglas Principal Michelle Kefford, the process went smoothly.

“Earlier today, September 15th, MSD administrators partnered with the District’s Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness division and the Special Investigative Unit to conduct hand-held metal detection screening. Three classrooms were randomly selected for this screening procedure. Our students behaved in an exemplary manner and I’m proud of how well they represented all Eagles, as they played a central role in this important initiative,” Kefford said.
