Miami, Florida – On Friday morning, the retired congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords was in downtown Miami to help unveil a new installation against gun violence.

She survived an assassination attempt on Jan. 8, 2011, while meeting with constituents in the parking lot of a supermarket.

Giffords was shot in the head, 12 others were wounded, and six — including 9-year-old Christina Taylor were killed by the mentally ill gunman.

“My recovery is a daily fight, but fighting makes me stronger,” Giffords said during her speech at Bayfront Park.

It has been more than 10 years since the shooting and Giffords has been relentless in her efforts to lobby for gun control.

Rep. Val Demings, former Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, and Stacey Wesch, of Parkland’s Moms Demand Action, were standing by Giffords.

The former police chief in Orlando, Rep. Val Demings is running for senate.
