Coral Springs, Florida – Joe McHugh defeated Jose Morera with 51 percent of the vote. Coral Springs residents elected a new commissioner for Seat 5 in a close contest decided by a few percentage points.
“Winning makes me happy, and I want to improve Coral Springs.” I express my gratitude to the locals who supported me. “I’ll be the city’s voice and ears,” McHugh declared.
McHugh has strong ties to the neighborhood. In addition to serving on the city’s Development Review Committee, he is the administrative captain of the Coral Springs Police Department.
At the Ice Den, where his son Cole plays travel ice hockey for the Florida Junior Panthers, he also serves as a referee for both youth and adult hockey.
In 1996, McHugh joined the city’s road patrol force. In 2001, he was chosen for the department’s traffic unit, and in 2005, he was elevated to sergeant.
He was moved to the training unit in 2007 and became public information officer for the department. He received a promotion to lieutenant in 2010.
