Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe public schools to reopen Friday

Miami, Florida – After enjoying a two-day respite courtesy of Hurricane Ian, South Florida, and the Keys students are back in the classroom.

All school buildings will reopen on Friday, according to Miami-Dade County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jose L. Dotres, based on the most recent information and a safety review of every school site. All adult education courses, after-school activities, athletics, and school-related events will also continue.

All district schools and offices will resume on Friday, according to Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Vickie Cartwright.

“We anticipate all school campuses will be open. In the event a campus is not ready to reopen, the principal will alert the school community by 5 p.m. today (Thursday),” she said in a video statement.

Several events, including athletic competitions, have been rescheduled, according to Cartwright.

Additionally, Monroe County Public Schools requested that everyone who parked their vehicles in school parking lots remove them by 5 p.m. on Thursday. The district’s schools would reopen on Friday for regular business.

Schools within the Archdiocese of Miami reopened on Thursday.

On Thursday, classes reopened at many regional universities, including Florida International University, University of Miami, Miami Dade College, and Nova Southeastern University.
