The Level III NICU designation for Broward Health Coral Springs expands care for high-risk newborns

Coral Springs, Florida – With its designation as a Level III Neonatal Intensive treatment Unit (NICU), Broward Health Coral Springs is now able to provide a wider variety of treatment for high-risk neonates in need of cutting-edge medical procedures.

With this new accreditation, the hospital may now stabilize and care for newborns delivered before 30 weeks gestation, offering specialist support until they are ready for transfer or discharge, according to a statement from Broward Health.

Broward Health Coral Springs CEO Kristen Bowman emphasized the hospital’s dedication to offering critical care to newborns who require extra assistance.

“We can guarantee that our newborns who need additional care get the help they require from highly qualified personnel in a therapeutic setting that meets the needs of both the parent and the child,” she said.

In order to be ready for more complicated and high-risk situations, Broward Health Coral Springs, which previously held a Level II NICU classification from Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration, invested $500,000 in the expansion.

The hospital can carry out vital procedures like feeding tube management, respiratory assistance, and several surgeries thanks to its elevated Level III classification. This eliminates the need for families to move to other facilities in order to receive these services locally.

In order to promote family comfort and privacy, the upgraded NICU has private rooms that let parents spend the night. A team of clinical professionals dedicated to patient safety oversees central monitoring, and each room has a breast milk refrigerator to facilitate breastfeeding.

The hospital’s NICU placed in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide for patient experience in 2024 after receiving the Guardian of Excellence Award from Press Ganey.
