Coral Springs, Florida – On June 28, there was an official ceremony where Chief John Whalen was sworn in as the new Fire Chief for the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department (CSPFD).
Chief Michael McNally, a close friend, is leaving, and he will take over for him.
As Fire Chief, Whalen will be in charge of over 200 people and make sure that everyone in Coral Springs and Parkland is safe.
“I am very humbled and honored to lead this incredible organization,” said Whalen. “I look forward to continuing to work with the dedicated men and women who proudly serve the community.”
Whalen has worked for the fire department for 28 years and has had many jobs, including Deputy Fire Chief from February 2020 to June 2024. Before he was made Deputy Chief, he was also Interim Fire Chief.
Coral Springs City Manager Frank Babinec praised Whalen, saying, “I feel confident that you will leave a lasting mark on our department and make our community even safer.”
The city says Whalen has also helped out as Assistant Chief for Bravo Shift and Deputy Chief of Operations, where he focused on training and safety projects.
