Parkland, Florida – Parents who are driving their children to and from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Westglades Middle School, should be prepared for a road construction project in the area.
According to The Florida Department of Transportation, this week, a half-mile stretch of Holmberg Road between Pine Island Road and Heron Bay Boulevard will be rebuilt, starting on May 26 and ending later this year.
According to the transportation department, the improvements include:
– Widening the roadway at the entrance of MSD to accommodate a dedicated right-turn lane.
– Milling and resurfacing the street.
– Restriping the roadway for bicycle lanes.
– Upgrading sidewalk and curb ramps as well as pedestrian signals, pavement markings, and signing.
According to the transportation department, the $609,561 project will be managed by Florida Engineering & Development Corp.
On Thursday, at 6 p.m., at the Parkland Library Transportation, officials are hosting a community meeting to go over the project.
