MLK Committee Hosts Inaugural Virtual Art Contest for K-12 Students

Coral Springs, Florida – Committed to educating students about the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the City of Coral Springs MLK Committee reimagined their traditional in-person exhibit art contest.

Through Friday, December 11, 2020, the committee will accept entries for the inaugural virtual art contest from students K-12.

This year, students will have to creatively convey the following message to the community through their artwork:

What does “A Brave New Dream” mean to you during these challenging times?” or “What would Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream look like for us today?”

Though this year’s art contest will be different from past years, this virtual experience will serve as a new and exciting way to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., said Commissioner Joshua Simmons.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the members of the MLK Committee to showcase the tremendous talent of students in our city schools while promoting the importance of the civil and economic rights of all Americans.”

A first, second, and third-place winner will be selected for each grade. The winners will have their artwork shared on the city’s website, social media platforms and displayed at the Coral Springs Museum of Art entrance from January 4 through January 19, 2021. Feel free to enjoy the exhibition in the museum.

The deadline to enter the contest is Friday, December 11, 2020, at 5 p.m. all artwork must be submitted electronically.
