Construction on Loxahatchee Road in Parkland Expected to Take Longer, Stretching into 2027

Parkland, Florida – Many local vehicles have been forced to avoid the region for months due to construction-related closures of a piece of Loxahatchee Road in Parkland, which has resulted in traffic jams in some areas of the city.
It is anticipated that this disruption may last longer than anticipated. It is part of a larger effort to enhance the road that connects State Road 7 to the Everglades.
A $33 million project being carried out by the Florida Department of Transportation entails widening Loxahatchee Road to provide for bike lanes, extending the sidewalk south of the road, and building roundabouts at Nob Hill Road, University Drive, and Parkside Drive.
According to the original plans, the building would be completed by the end of 2026.
Officials from the state now anticipate that the work will continue until early 2027.
“Due to unexpected weather towards the end of last year and some unforeseen utility conflicts, there has been a slight delay to the project completion to be pushed from late 2026 to early 2027,” FDOT Community Outreach Specialist Daniela Silva said in an email to TAPinto Parkland.
Parkland Mayor Rich Walker stated that due to the project’s complexity, his city had anticipated its completion in 2027 from the project’s beginning.
Loxahatchee Road has been blocked nonstop from University Drive to Parkside Drive since the project’s inception in October.
Since then, University Drive, Holmberg Road, and Parkside Drive have been used as detour routes for traffic, which frequently causes congestion in certain areas of Parkland during the morning and late afternoon.
