Musician Hailey Ezzell of Coral Springs releases a book

Coral Springs, Florida – Hailey Ezzell, a local author and musician, will launch her debut book, Ghost Writers, at a book signing at the Coral Springs Barnes & Noble.

Inspired by her experiences as a musician, Ezzell, a recent graduate of Florida Atlantic University and alum of Coral Glades High School, wrote a novel about a young band on the edge of popularity who encounter strange beings during their first tour.

In the novel, the band members find out that Stadium, the 80s metal band that perished in a bus accident decades earlier, is haunting the tour bus they have acquired. The main character, Sam, and her band must deal with the difficulties of stardom while taking lessons from Stadium’s sad past before their own success destroys them, while the ghosts provide assistance.

“It started out as a song, but then it became a book.” Ezzell stated, “I was going to turn it into lyrics, but I never did.” She discovered the story ideas on her Notes app and believed they could be developed into a book when she started thinking about creating a novel.

“Being a musician and imagining what it would be like to get advice from some of my favorite classic rock bands that are no longer around really inspired me,” the woman continued.

Ezzell obtained her bachelor’s degree in liberal arts in 2023, specializing in writing and minoring in commercial music. She graduated from Florida Atlantic University’s Honors College in Jupiter.

I was a writing major, so I had the luxury of working on my novel for class assignments. If not, I probably never would have had the time to sit down and write it,” the author remarked, noting that it took her four years to finish the work from the moment she received the concept.

Ezzell plays keyboards and leads vocals for the 80s rock cover band Stone Lace. She composes and performs her own music as well.

“We have been performing in Coral Springs and Broward for the past six years, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot about what it means to be a musician,” she stated. She went on to say that writing some of the book’s early scenes—in which the band performs in neighborhood bars—was particularly aided by her experience.

Being a member of the Coral Springs Country Club, Ezzell claimed that by designating the two characters’ house as Coral Springs, she was able to incorporate a little bit of her hometown into the book.

Ezzell gives writer Dayle Dermatis, a friend, credit for assisting her in the publishing process.
