In the Heron Bay Development Project, Coral Springs authorizes the transfer of land to Parkland for a new, upscale gym

Coral Springs, Florida – The construction plan for a Life Time Fitness facility on a section of the former Heron Bay Golf Course can now proceed after the Coral Springs City Commission approved a land transfer to Parkland.
An 8.5-acre site will be moved from Coral Springs’ authority to Parkland’s through this “de-annexation,” where it would be incorporated into a bigger mixed-use development project.
Parkland bought 65 acres of the Heron Bay property last year with plans to renovate it. A portion of the property is located in Coral Springs.
In order for the city of Coral Springs to approve this transfer, Parkland must complete a separate contract to sell Life Time Fitness a 9.3-acre block of land nearby that was once the location of the Heron Bay Clubhouse.
According to Coral Springs city attorney John Hearn, it “just makes planning sense” to let Parkland supervise the Heron Bay site’s development.
After discussing the transfer in a joint workshop between the two communities, officials decided to combine these areas under Parkland’s jurisdiction.
As part of the transfer, Parkland has also committed to paying Coral Springs compensation.
According to the resolution that Coral Springs endorsed, the precise conditions of this compensation will be decided in a future agreement.
In order to facilitate Parkland’s Life Time Fitness project, the resolution instructs Coral Springs employees to finish any necessary procedures for the transfer.
Additionally, Parkland will need to proceed with annexing the land.
