2022 Strategic Plan Includes New Downtown Developments, Sustainability, Infrastructure

Coral Springs seeks to be a premier city to work, live and raise a family. That is, according to its newly released strategic plan.
The city released the Fiscal Year 2022 Strategic Plan Highlights, which includes plans and visions for the upcoming fiscal year. The goals are to help the city run smoothly and efficiently, provide amenities, attract visitors, and increase safety.
Some of the plan’s highlights include development at the intersection of Sample Road and University Drive, creating stormwater improvements, and exploring sustainability initiatives.
The plan outlines two mixed-use building sites on one of the city’s busiest intersections. City Village, one of the planned developments, would include retail, restaurant, office, and residential space. It would be located on the northwest corner of Sample and University. The other project, Cornerstone, would be on the southwest corner.
Other improvements to downtown Coral Springs include the installment of a rooftop bar and a grab-and-go grocery store.
The strategic plan mentions stormwater improvements and infrastructure updates for parts of Commerce Park, Westchester, Meadow, and the Dells due to flooding concerns. Current systems would be improved to mitigate flooding and improve runoff.
For sustainability, the main objectives are creating an office for sustainability and expanding solar energy. These solar energy options would be installed in city parks and reduce energy costs and disruptive construction projects.
Other components include a $600,000 initiative to install bike lanes and sidewalks, updating city signage, and promoting minority-owned businesses.
Previously published initiatives that are also part of the strategic plan include opening a surf park near the Coral Springs Aquatic Center and rebuilding Fire Station 64, and adding amenities to Kiwanis Park,
“The City of Coral Springs continues to make intentional, proactive, and strategic steps to strengthen our financial position while increasing transparency, innovation, and operating efficiencies city-wide,” said Frank Babinec, city manager, in a letter. “I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”
The city commission is scheduled to discuss the strategic plan on April 21. at 6:30 p.m.
