Two dead in Plantation crash on University Drive

Fort Lauderdale, Florida — Two people were killed in a crash on University Drive in Plantation.
The horrific crash happened Thursday after 3:30 a.m. between 3rd and 5th Street.
According to police, the driver of a 2014 Mercedes Benz lost control and slammed into a tree. The force of the impact split the car in two.
“I woke up to what sounded like a crash and then I looked outside and I saw the car in flames,” said Frances Velasco. “I was about to call 911 and that’s when I heard the sirens coming.”
According to a witness, the man driving the car, and a child died on the scene.
Velasco said she heard a woman on the side of the road screaming for help.
“Two booming sounds and a woman screaming for her baby like ‘my baby, my baby,” she said.
Police have not released the names of those who died or said if they were related.
