Coronavirus: Florida reports 6,331 new cases Monday and passes 18,000 resident deaths

Florida’s health department confirmed an increase of 6,331 COVID-19 cases on Monday, plus 94 more resident deaths, pushing the state past 18,000 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.
Florida is now up to 944,745 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 18,085 resident deaths associated with the novel coronavirus, according to the health department’s dashboard.
The state has also reported that at least 225 non-resident deaths have occurred here, and there have been at least 53,499 hospitalizations attributed to the virus since the start of the outbreak.
The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s testing was 7.01%.
Deaths confirmed in the past 24 hours in South Florida include six in Miami-Dade County, three in Broward County and 11 in Palm Beach County.
Nearly 1,500 of the new cases reported Monday were in Miami-Dade.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 58.8 million. There have been more than 1.3 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 37.6 million being declared recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.
The United States has passed 12.2 million confirmed cases, with more than 256,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world. Over 4.5 million Americans have been deemed recovered.
