Coral Springs working on returning residential recycling

Coral Springs, Florida – On Wednesday Coral Springs officials said that they are hoping to return residential curbside recycling in the city by the end of the year.
City Manager Frank Babinec announced that the city is working on a new recycling contract.
“Our goal is to get curbside recycling back up and running by the end of the year,” Babinec said. “Hopefully we should have more information very soon.”
Curbside recycling ended in the city in May 2020 because of rising recycling costs related to recycling contamination and changes in the recycling markets.
City managers ordered trash haulers to take whatever recyclable materials were in the residential recycling bins to a waste-to-energy facility, besides facing a $300,000 increase in costs.
According to City Attorney John J. (“JJ”) Hearn, city commissioners are expected to discuss the return of residential recycling at their Sept. 13 meeting.
