Young man arrested for allegedly selling marijuana
Coral Springs, Florida – According to the police report, with an uptick in vehicle burglaries, catalytic converter thefts, and “open-air narcotics use and sale” in Coral Springs, a city police officer was patrolling an apartment area three blocks from Forest Hills Elementary School when he spotted a car idling last week.
When the officer walked up to the Honda in the 2900 block of Forest Hills Boulevard and smelled marijuana, it was around 3 a.m. on Aug. 4, the report said.
According to the police report, the officer had made three drug-related arrests nearby on July 31.
The officer saw what appeared to be marijuana on the lap of the passenger, identified as Amar Garland, 20, who lives in the area, the report said. Garland and the driver told the officer they had just gotten off working at Taco Bell and were just hanging out in the car, the report said.
They found 28 grams of marijuana, digital scales, and an empty plastic bag after police removed Garland and the driver from the car, the report said.
Police also found $410 on Garland, who is on probation for a charge of assaulting a police officer, the report said.
Garland was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell or distribute, possession of cannabis over 20 grams, and violation of probation.
Court records show, he has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to court records, Garland remained at Broward County Jail on Friday with no bond on the probation charge and $1,000 for the cannabis sell or distribute charge.
