Coral Springs Walkers Raise Money and Awareness to End Alzheimer’s

Coral Springs, Florida – Christina Nicoll is ready to walk anywhere to bring awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease, which stopped her entire family in their tracks when her grandfather, Harold Barnum, was first diagnosed.
“I really didn’t know much about Alzheimer’s, or how to deal with it,” she said of her experience with the disease that took his life in 2017.
On Saturday, November 21, Nicoll and her group of walkers will be wearing purple and traversing through Fern Glen Park, 4801 NW 66th Ter. to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s Association, which hosts The Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Due to Covid-19 safety concerns, the national campaign, which was originally taking place throughout large cities like Coral Springs, was altered to smaller neighborhoods so everyone could safely participate in the organization’s signature event to highlight National Alzheimer’s Month.
According to statistics gathered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, at least 5.5 million people live with Alzheimer’s, which is the most recognized form of dementia and is seen as a decline in memory and everyday skills.
However, for Nicoll and others with a family member afflicted with this debilitating disease, this walk is not just about awareness or remembering a family member; she is hoping it’s the first step for a cure.
