Max Lazar from Coral Springs High School, makes his MLB debut

Coral Springs, Florida – Max Lazar, a product of Coral Springs High School, made his Major League Baseball debut with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Lazar, a 2017 graduate, made a pitch during their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. Lazar entered the game losing 11–1, but he retired second baseman Kevin Newman with just one pitch before pitching a shutout eighth inning. In addition to getting Josh Bell to ground out and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to fly out, he struck out former All-Star Joc Pederson.

Lazar excelled as a two-way player during his two years of high school baseball at Coral Springs, where he went on to become the 189th Jewish player to play in Major League Baseball. He finished 15–4 with a.81 ERA and a.357 batting average. Lazar was selected in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers after originally deciding to attend Florida Atlantic University. After pitching with the Brewers organization until 2023, he joined the Philadelphia Phillies in the minor leagues.
Throughout his career, Lazar mostly operated from the bullpen. Before the Phillies summoned him up to the major leagues, he had 18 career saves and won 14 games, including two this year. Eight games ahead of the New York Mets, the Phillies lead the NL East.
Before the Phillies host the Miami Marlins on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m., they will play the final game of their series against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
