Coral Springs man arrested for allegedly receiving counterfeit credit cards
Coral Springs, Florida – Earlier this month U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents sent an alert to Coral Springs police.
A city resident was going to be getting delivery at home for 101 metal cards that looked like American Express cards.
According to the police report, last week, city police conducted surveillance on Matthew Hall, 27, a hotel worker who was supposed to get the package.
They followed him on Aug. 5 in his Porsche from his job in Fort Lauderdale to a house in Lauderhill to his home in the 11100 block of NW First Place, where he picked up the package, the report said.
With the package in his car, police detained Hall. He initially told officers the package contained “stickers,” according to the report. He then told investigators that he alters cards that appear to be American Express cards by adding fake names and numbers, but he only does this for “memorabilia,” the report said.
According to the report, in all, since last year, police suspect more than 1,200 counterfeit credit cards were received at the Coral Springs house.
Hall was charged with trafficking counterfeit credit cards. According to court records, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was released from Broward County Jail on a $7,500 bond.
