Broward County students return to class after summer break

Broward County, Florida – More than 250,000 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) students returned to class.
“The first day of school is always an exciting time for our students and families,” Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright said. “I am proud of the incredible dedication of our administrators, teachers, and staff who have worked hard preparing to welcome our students back to their classrooms.
On more than 800 routes, more than 56,000 students took school buses to their campus.
The District’s transportation fleet includes 1,200 school buses, which is one of the largest school district-operated fleets in the nation. Every bus has GPS technology to track locations and report emergencies.
Cartwright and School Board members visited several schools in the district, welcoming students, teachers, faculty, and staff.
“Ensuring safety on our campuses remains our top priority,” Cartwright said. “We want our parents and school communities to know we have safeguards in place to keep our students and staff safe.”
All schools offer free breakfast. Free lunch is available for students at 167 schools.
Students at schools not eligible for free lunch may apply to receive free or reduced-priced meals.
