Broward County has extended its curfew to Monday, Aug. 3.

The current curfew began on July 17 and was originally set to expire on Aug. 1. The curfew runs from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night and was in response to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Those exempted include active duty police, fire rescue, news media, delivery and transportation drivers, people who need emergency medical care, healthcare and utility workers and anyone traveling home from work. Individuals can walk their pets within 250 feet of their homes. People returning directly to their homes after one-way vehicular travel of more than 100 miles are also exempt.

Private gatherings at residential homes are limited to no more than 10 people. Short-term vacation rentals are prohibited from operating unless they have onsite owners or managers.

County officials continue to stress that individuals should follow the guidelines related to the pandemic, including mask use and social distancing. They also continue to encourage residents to report businesses that are not following rules and regulations related to the pandemic.
