Coral Springs’s two basketball teams win the District Championship

Coral Springs, Florida – Two Coral Springs high school basketball teams won district championships this past week, while another made it to the regionals.

After two decisive victories, the Coral Glades boys basketball team won the District Championship for the second time in a row. The Jaguars defeated Boca Raton Community High School 77-41 after being given a bye in the first round and then defeated Park Vista Community High School 83-61 in the championship game.

Coral Glades will be the third seed going into the Regionals after improving to 19-7. On Wednesday, February 12 at 7 p.m., they will play their first game against Miami Palmetto Senior High School. This season, the Panthers finished 16-10 and took home the District Championship. In addition to Columbus, Doral Academy, Western, and Cypress Bay High Schools, the winner of this game will face either Miami or Park Vista Community High School.

After defeating North Broward Prep and top-seeded Saint Andrew’s School in the championship game, the Coral Springs Charter girls basketball team also took home a District Championship. They are 16-8 this season and will play Bishop Verot High School on Thursday, January 13 at 7 p.m. as the fifth seed in the regional tournament. After defeating Clewiston and Gateway Charter, the fourth-seeded Vikings went 19-7 this season, including winning their District tournament.

The girls’ basketball team from Coral Springs High School advanced to the District Final before losing 77-34 against St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Prior to a thrilling victory over South Plantation High School in the semifinals, they had defeated Monarch High School in the first round. After falling behind by ten points in the fourth quarter, the Lady Colts rallied to win in overtime.

They will meet Nova High School in the quarterfinals after qualifying for regionals as well. After defeating South Broward High School and Cooper City in the District Tournament, the Titans are 20-5 this season. Additionally, in their only meeting this year, Nova defeated Coral Springs High School 72–17.

After defeating St. Thomas Aquinas High School 72-59, the Coral Springs High School boys basketball team advanced to the Regional Final. In the semifinals, they had previously defeated South Plantation High School 68-66 and Deerfield Beach High School 64-49. However, the Colts ended the season 16-9 and failed to make it to the regionals. Javah Chervin and Alex Pierre Louis are their two seniors this year.

The Coral Springs Charter boys basketball team defeated FAU High School 77-45 in their opening District Tournament match, one of their 15 victories for the season. While the J.P. Taravella boys basketball team, led by seniors Jordan Arriaga and Nico Novoa, went 9–13 this season and lost 57–48 to Cypress Bay, they suffered an 84–44 loss to Calvary Christina Academy.

The J.P. Taravella girls’ basketball team fell 40-35 to West Broward High School, but they defeated them 40-35 in their first playoff game. Chloe Ledan, Sarah Zoughai, Ke’shell Gilbert, Amber Beck, Dannielle Duncanson, Willyana Jaques, and Brianna Whittaker will all graduate after they finished the season 8–9.

The Coral Glades girls basketball team finished 3-9 this season, defeating Plantation, Stranahan, and Everglades High School before losing to Boca Raton Community High School 50-21 in the first round. This year, Alina McGuire is their only senior.
