J.P. Taravella Navy JROTC cadets may now apply to Embry-Riddle Partnership for college aviation credits
Coral Springs, Florida – Students at J.P. Taravella High School have a special chance to participate in the Navy JROTC program and earn college credits.
This year, two dual enrollment courses will be offered by JROTC and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, giving students the opportunity to earn six hours of college credit.
Students can learn about drones in the first course, Introduction to Aeronautical Science, and the second course, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
Senior naval science instructor Kevin Follett of J.P. Taravella hopes to open an aircraft pilot’s ground school at Embry-Riddle by 2025. After finishing this course, students can sit for the written private pilot exam administered by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Follett hopes to expand NJROTC and provide additional chances for kids. We had 87 cadets the year before, and this year we have 130. “I want to have 175 cadets,” he declared.
Students can prepare for future difficulties with technological classes and leadership training provided by the NJROTC program. Along with exercise and drills, the students participate in activities that promote discipline and teamwork.
Follett asserts that encouraging excellent citizenship in high school students by fostering a feeling of duty and service is one of NJROTC’s main objectives.
