Just 5 pediatric ICU beds available in Broward

Coral Springs, Florida – According to data, just five pediatric intensive care unit beds remained available in Broward hospitals Tuesday, as the county struggled against a continuing surge of life-threatening COVID-19 infections.
According to the data compiled by Broward County’s Emergency Management Division, at least 1,756 patients positive for the coronavirus had been admitted to local hospitals as of 11 a.m, up from 1,683 a day earlier.
At least 230 COVID-positive patients were on ventilators, the data show, accounting for 31 percent of the county’s 733 ventilators.
Pediatric ICUs were 94 percent full. Adult intensive care units were 95 percent full, with 28 ICU beds still available, records show.
The information used to compile the county data was submitted by local hospitals and has not been audited, according to the county.
Florida reported a confirmed 21,669 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, breaking the pandemic record for the statewide 7-day average, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
