K9 Unit at the Coral Springs Police Department has grown by one

Coral Springs, Florida – With the addition of a single-purpose narcotics sniffing dog named Meri, the K9 Unit at the Coral Springs Police Department has grown by one.
Earlier this year, the German Shepard shorthaired pointer joined the force, completing her month-long training alongside her partner, Detective Corey Logan, who has former police experience as a dog handler.
“We got Meri from Hungary. I carry her passport with me,” said Logan, adding a sit command in Dutch, the language Meri is trained in.
Meri lives with his family and his school-aged children love having her around, Logan added.
Only a few weeks ago, Meri overcame a bout with pneumonia and is now fully recovered.
Meri is trained and certified by the North American Police Work Dog Association (NAPWDA) to passively search for narcotics.
Meri is one of five canines currently serving Coral Springs police.
