Man Arrested for Choking His Sister After She Told His Girlfriend To Leave Him

A Coral Springs man was arrested for attempting to strangle his sister after telling his girlfriend to break up with him.
On April 12, the Coral Springs Police responded to a domestic abuse call from the Sabal Pointe Apartment complex located at the 12200 block of West Sample Road.
As officers pulled into the development, they were flagged down by a man, later identified as Cyan Haughton, 20, who claimed he had been in non-physical confrontation with his sister after she got in the middle of a fight he was having over the phone with his girlfriend.
According to the report, Haughton claimed he ran up to his sister and threatened to hit her — but never placed his hands on her.
When officers interviewed his sister, she told them a different version of the events, which detailed how he violently assaulted her, choking her to the point where she almost lost consciousness.
After she disagreed with him, the victim said he charged her, grabbed her by the neck with both hands, pinned her against a wall, and choked her until she was light-headed. She told officers Haughton was enraged that she would suggest to his girlfriend that she break up with him and that she should be on his side.
According to the victim, Haughton stopped choking her and left the residence, allowing her to call 911. She told officers during the interview that her neck still hurt from the assault and at multiple points could not breathe at all. Police observed minor marks on the victim’s neck that were consistent with being choked.
After interviewing Haughton and the victim, officers arrested him and transported him to the Broward County Mail Jail, where he was later released after posting a $3,500 bond.
