To support initiatives to preserve more historic structures and sites, Coral Springs forms new Historic Preservation Board
Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs is home to two historic landmarks that have been designated as Florida Heritage Sites. These landmarks are the Museum of Coral Springs History building and the Coral Springs Historic Covered Bridge as well.
In a city that has recently celebrated its 61st birthday, is it possible that there are additional historic landmarks?
That is something that will be investigated by a new city board.
The establishment of a Historic Preservation Board was approved by the city commissioners on the previous month. This board will be of assistance to the city in its efforts to conserve historical structures and locations.
Officials have stated that the board, which would be responsible for submitting recommendations to the City Commission for final approval, will also have the ability to open the way for additional properties inside the city to be considered for historic classification.
“Over the next year, the City Commission will appoint members to the committee, and they will begin the process to see what, if any, sites and/or districts they will recommend for historic designation,” city spokeswoman Lindsey Steinberg explained.
Located immediately south of Wiles Road, the Coral Springs Historic Covered Bridge is a bridge that spans NW 95 Avenue and is forty feet in length. It is made of steel throughout its entirety.
It was the first permanent structure to be constructed in the city, and it opened its doors in 1964.
Furthermore, the structure that now houses the Museum of Coral Springs History was initially constructed by Coral Ridge Properties in 1964 as a real estate sales office near the intersection of Wiles Road and State Road 7. ”
Located at 10250 NW 29 Street in Mullins Park, it has been renovated at this time.
