Governor DeSantis signs bills honoring Cuban exiles, victims of communism
Miami, Florida – On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed two bills at Miami’s Freedom Tower.
HB 395 establishes Nov. 7 as Victims of Communism Day.
According to DeSantis, this will require high school instruction on communism and the Cuban regime’s involvement in communism.
Another bill signed Monday was SB 160, honoring some Cuban exiles in Miami-Dade County with road designations.
These are people who fought against the Castro regime. “The intersection of Southwest 23rd Avenue and Southwest 8th Street in Miami-Dade County is hereby designated as Arturo Diaz Artiles Plaza,” the governor said. “A portion of State Road 953, known as LeJeune Road, between Northwest 11th Street and Northwest 14th Street in Miami-Dade County is hereby designated as Oswaldo Payá Way.”
DeSantis also spoke about the millions of dollars proposed to renovate Freedom Tower.
He says the $25 million budget has not been totally set in stone, but he has gotten approval for that money to go toward the iconic tower in downtown Miami. “The freedom Tower represented a turning point in, not only their lives but also a turning point for human liberty,” DeSantis said.
