New program against the rising rents outpacing residents’ incomes in Coral Springs
Coral Springs, Florida – The City of Coral Springs is taking action against the dramatic increase in rising residential rental costs.
The commission voted unanimously to approve the implementation of the program, presenting a plan to reallocate more than $1 million of federal funding through community development block grant funds during the July 20 commission meeting.
The new program will offer financial assistance to eligible Coral Springs renters who experienced an increase of more than 5% from April 2020 until now.
Eligible households can receive a maximum grant of $3,600 for up to six months to assist with the difference in the rental increase. All financial assistance will be paid directly to the landlord.
In order to be eligible, the applicant(s) must rent in Coral Springs and have documented evidence of an annual lease agreement that has increased more than 5% in one leasing period.
To apply, print the application (single-sided) in color from the city’s website. Complete the application in blue or black ink and provide copies of all required documentation. Residents who are unable to print the application can obtain one at city hall. Once the application is complete, residents must submit it in person at City Hall, 9500 W. Sample Road, on the following dates: August 15 – August 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and August 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Appointments will be accepted if funds are still available after August 19,. For more information, visit CoralSprings.gov/rent or call 954-344-116.
