Another pediatric monkeypox case has been confirmed in Florida
Florida – A Martin County child under 4 years old tested positive for monkeypox. Martin County is north of Palm Beach County on the Treasure Coast.
There are now over 1,200 cases statewide.
Miami-Dade County now has the highest number of cases in the state.
Since the answers to whether monkeypox is global and an epidemic are both “maybe” rather than “yes,” this suggests that monkeypox is not a pandemic – at least not yet. But it could become one soon.
But even if monkeypox is declared to be a public health emergency of international concern, it is not going to become a devastating pandemic like COVID-19.
The virus is spread mostly through close, intimate contact.
