Alhadeff, Moskowitz win in Tuesday’s election
Coral Springs, Florida – Broward County School Board member Lori Alhadeff won re-election in Tuesday’s election, and Jared Moskowitz won the Democratic primary for Florida’s 23rd Congressional District.
Alhadeff defeated Kimberly Coward 61 percent to 39 percent with 34,246 votes cast for the District 4 seat, which includes Coral Springs.
In 2018, she was first elected following the killing of her daughter Alyssa in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
She wrote on social media shortly after her victory: “Tonight’s win is gratifying because it affirms that voters support the important work to which I’ve committed myself over the course of the past four years. I’m excited to continue building upon the progress we have made when it comes to ensuring school safety, raising teacher pay, responsibly managing our education budget, and insisting upon accountability across all levels of Broward County Public Schools.”
Moskowitz won just about 60 percent of the vote against Ben Sorensen, Hava Holzhauer, and other candidates with 46,146 votes cast in the primary for the seat vacated by Ted Deutsch, who has served the district since 2010 and will be leaving to become the CEO of the American Jewish Committee.
Joe Budd defeated six other candidates to win the Republican nomination for the district.
