An eventful summer is highlighted by the Coral Springs Charter Commitments and the Hall of Fame Induction

Coral Springs, Florida – With the official commitments of three of their first players to play collegiate volleyball, a baseball player, and an induction into the Coral Springs Charter Hall of Fame, the boys’ volleyball team created history.

Sergio Mejia Monnar will play at King University in Tennessee, while Jalen McGregor and Aaddhith Aranhcerry will attend Warner University Lake Wales. Before losing to Coral Springs High School in the regional round, the Panthers enjoyed an incredible season, winning 14 games and the district championship.

McGregor finished third with 110 kills and led the team in hitting %. In contrast to Arahcherry, who had 361 assists and 93 digs, he also had 75 blocks. He also had 24 aces on record. With 195 kills, Mejia Monnar outscored all Panthers by 21 this season. In addition, he placed fourth in blocks and second in assists for the team. Mejia Monnar and Arancherry both participated in the BCAA All-Star Game.

McGregor and Aranhcerry will play for a collegiate squad that finished the previous season with eight wins compared to King University’s seven. Seven seniors of the CSC volleyball team graduated, but they will have several key players back for the upcoming season as they aim to win the district title again.
Marcelo Young made his commitment to Florida International University known in the baseball world.

“I am extremely excited to announce that I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at FIU,” Young said. I would like to thank all my friends, family, and coaches for believing in me and motivating me to be the best person I can be on and off the field.”

Pitching to a 4.05. era, Young was 4-0 in his junior season with the Panthers. He pitched one complete game, made three starts, and struck out thirty-two batters in three 6.1 innings. After finishing 15-11 and qualifying for regionals, CSC lost to North Broward Prep, the eventual state champions, in the first round.

Coach Alvaro Gomez, who is in his first year at CSC, will be Young’s coach for the final year before he leaves for FIU. Young will then play for a Conference USA squad that has made it to the NCAA Tournament eleven times. This past season, they finished 27–30, but 137 players were chosen in the MLB Draft.

Darius Butler, a former NFL safety and graduate of Coral Springs Charter, will be admitted into the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame.

Butler was a two-sport star who graduated from CSC in 2004. In his varsity basketball career, he scored more than 1,000 points while playing football. Prior to attending the University of Connecticut to play collegiate football, he earned an All-County and All-State Honorable Mention selection.

In the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Butler was chosen. 33 tackles and four interceptions at safety were his stats throughout his nine years in the NFL with the New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Chargers. October 18 is Butler’s induction date.
