Coral Springs, Florida – According to preliminary drawings, the proposed Coral Springs Charter School will have a contemporary, vibrant campus with designated study spaces for each student.

Initially, Harvard Jolly PBK planned to build a science lab, an athletic complex, vocational and technical education labs, a gymnasium, a student lounge, and several classrooms, including one devoted to dropout prevention, on the city-owned property at 2501 Coral Springs Drive, which is vacant land next to the city police department.

A new parking lot that might be constructed next to the Coral Springs Gymnasium is also seen in the images. According to the images, staff and students would use the nearby parking lots.

Coral Springs Charter School, located at 3205 N. University Dr. is a tuition-free charter school for students in grades six through twelve. Charter Schools USA and the city of Coral Springs collaborated to develop it in 1999.

There are 1,719 students enrolled in Coral Springs Charter School, according to U.S. News and World Report rankings.

In addition to accommodating an increase in enrollment, the larger, two-story campus would give students access to new classrooms and athletic facilities, as well as convenient access to the nearby Coral Springs Center for the Arts and Mullins Park fields. Additionally, the school would be easily accessible from the police and fire department facilities.

According to the images, after permitting is finished, the campus will be built in about 21 months. According to the records, the project would take about three years to finish.

Lindsey Steinberg, the city spokesman, emphasized that no plans have been approved and that the renderings are only a starting point.

In an email, Steinberg stated, “It is important to note that these are preliminary renderings to receive feedback from community stakeholders.” “These plans are subject to change. Prior to finalization, our commission, sports leagues, and the community would all be included in any creative design proposals.

When SEPI Engineering and Construction consultant Kaitlyn Forbes presented the proposal to the city commission and Community Redevelopment Agency in November 2022, it was determined that moving the charter school was a high-priority capital improvement project. In the years before, there had been much talk of plans for the migration.

A CRA Master Plan covering 136 acres around Sample Road and University Drive, including the Cornerstone development and the remaining downtown area under construction, was authorized by the commission in 2023.

According to documents, the charter school’s relocation is a component of the city’s larger plan for the region.
