Coral Springs, Florida – According to Coral Springs City Manager Frank Babinec, a new road project is slated to start next year as three major road construction projects begin to wrap up in Coral Springs – the widening and improvements to University Drive from downtown to Sawgrass Expressway.

“Basically from Sample Road to Sawgrass, you’ll see major work happening there,” he said.

According to Babinec, University Drive is expected to start in early 2023 with plans to add two additional travel lanes to the existing four lanes to make it a six-lane roadway.

City commissioners, in October, approved a federally funded project to expand University Drive from NW 40 Street to the Sawgrass Expressway.

The project – which would cost more than $25 million, including right-of-way acquisition ($900,000) – was projected to begin in the fall of 2022 with completion within 18 months to two years.

According to Babinec, three current road projects in the city are expected to be done in August or September:

– Coral Ridge Road from Southgate Boulevard to Wyndham Circle

– Wiles Road from University Drive to Riverside Drive

– Riverside Drive from West Atlantic Boulevard to Royal Palm Boulevard.
