Coral Springs, Florida – Coral Springs resident Stephen Chin, 47, has had a strong interest in exercise since he was a teenager.

“I believe if you truly love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,” he said.

Thus, he has committed himself to working as a fitness coach at a gym in Coral Springs and assisting with the training of law officers and firefighters.

Chin, who has always been very competitive, is now aiming for another title: Mr. Health & Fitness. It’s a fan-voted competition with no official scoring system. The winner receives $20,000 in addition to a two-page spread in the magazine Muscle and Fitness.

“I train very differently because I compete in races such as Spartan and HYROX,” Chin said. “People notice I train differently, and they approach me for help.”

According to Chin, the training program for firefighters is rigorous and often lasts six weeks.

“I have them do sled pulls to prep them for dragging dummies, and step training with sandbags to prep them for the stairs,” Chin said.

Chin, who was born in Jamaica, immigrated to the US at the age of 19. It has been over twenty-five years since then that he has engaged in fitness training.

Chin is in the top 5 in the competition to become Mr. Health & Fitness. The next round of voting will take place on Thursday after 7 p.m.

He plans to utilize the prize money to create his own HYROX training center, which will help competitors prepare specifically for races like these. He wants to win only for the exposure.

“I want to inspire people,” Chin said. “I came back from a torn Achilles at the age of 42 and am competing on a reconstructed Achilles. I hope to inspire others by showing them what hard work and dedication can do.”

By casting your ballot for Chin, you may help him on his path to triumph.
