Following an affair dispute, a baseball bat blow puts a Coral Springs woman in jail

Coral Springs, Florida – After claims of infidelity, a woman is accused of hitting her partner in the head with a baseball bat, leading to charges of aggravated violence.
The Coral Springs Police Department was called to a report of domestic violence in the parking lot of a business at 11000 Wiles Road on January 3 at around 3:00 a.m. Officers arrived to find a woman, later identified as Stephanie Schmidt, 33, of Coral Springs, engaging in a violent altercation and a male victim heavily bleeding from his forehead.
According to the report, the victim claimed that he and Schmidt, his then-girlfriend, had been fighting on the way home from the beach after she accused him of cheating after finding another woman’s information on his cellphone.
The victim said that Schmidt locked her out of the car after he got out in order to defuse the situation. But then she started beating and kicking the car, tearing off the license plate and flinging it to the ground.
According to the victim’s records, Schmidt allegedly took a baseball bat from the rear of the car at one point, which caused him to worry that she may seriously harm his truck. At this point, he also got out of the car and tried to disarm her, but the bat hit him in the head, leaving a deep cut.
The man was treated on the spot by emergency medical workers when responding officers noticed that he was badly bleeding from his forehead. Officers were also given video evidence of the altercation by the victim.
Schmidt stated in an interview that the victim had hit her after the disagreement started inside the car and became physical. She claimed that after getting out of the car to get some distance, she started pounding on the doors to get personal belongings back.
Schmidt acknowledged getting the baseball bat and hitting the victim after he got out of the car, according to the arrest documents.
Schmidt’s hands, chin, and forehead all had minor abrasions that the officers saw. She stated that the altercation was the cause of her injuries. The victim denied striking her, speculating that she might have been hurt during their fight over the bat or when punching the car.
After being taken into custody, Schmidt was taken to the Broward County Main Jail. She subsequently posted a $2,500 bond and was freed.
